Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture is located at Iowa State University and has
three primary objectives:

- The Sustainable Agriculture Network
is the communications and outreach arm of the Sustainable Agriculture Research and
Education (SARE) program. SARE is a US Department of Agriculture-funded initiative that
sponsors competitive grants for sustainable agriculture research and education in the
United States. SAN is dedicated to the exchange of scientific and practical information on
sustainable agriculture systems using a variety of printed and electronic communications
tools.

sustainable development. This on-line version is divided into five lessons; The History of

- Sustainable
Practices for Vegetable Production in the South by Dr. Mary M. Peet, North Carolina
State University. Although written for the Southern United States, this on-line book gives
a large amount of general information on sustainable agriculture, e.g. soil management,
cover crops and living mulches, and conservation tillage.
- The Vetiver Network
disseminating information on the use of Vetiver grass (Vetivaria zizanioides, V.
nigratana, V. nemoralis) for soil and water conservation, for embankment
stabilization, and for pollution control.
